Bungo Meijyo Brewery
About History
Bungo Meijyo has been producing Sake and Shochu in the rich natural surroundings of Saiki city in Oita Prefecture for over 100 years, also has a history of more than 30 years producing Amazake. Although it is a relatively small brewery in the back of the mountains, our pride is our products, which are exclusively made with locally rooted materials from Oita and Saiki. Through our brewing culture of using Japan's unique Koji (aspergillus) for beverages, we believe that our mission is to fascinate people in the world at Oita Prefecture and Saiki City by serving our products.
Location
The Saiki City is located at the southeastern part of Oita Prefecture. Since the Edo period (the 17th to 19th century) when it flourished as the castle town of the Saiki domain, the city has been said that “The lord of Saiki holds sway over the sea, and the sea's bounty is maintained by the mountains.” Saiki Library of National Diet Library in Japan is a legacy of the Saiki-Mori Clan's collection of Western books. In the Edo period, valuable Western books were lent to the samurai serving the Saiki-Mori clan. Saiki fishing ports catches around 200 different types of fishes throughout the year from Bungo Waterworks. Blessed with abundant seafood and mountain products, it actively promotes tourism under the slogan “The World's Best: Saiki Sushi.”
